Duties: The Department Administrator manages the daily operations of the Economics Department. This position reports directly to the department chair. Daily interaction with faculty, undergraduate/graduate students and staff within our department, at PENN along with outside colleges and universities. Provide administrative support, hire and supervise department staff. This position includes working on faculty recruitment, appointment and promotion dossiers, and leave requests. Maintains, verifies, and updates all Department records, organizes data for reports.. Assists the chair in budget preparation, monitors departmental expenditures, hires staff and supervises them, monitoring their workloads, performance and attendance, and arranging backup when needed. Oversee department and building maintenance and facility requests. Handle all faculty and visitor foreign visa applications. First contact with new and incoming faculty and visitors making sure they have a smooth transition into PENN and our department. Coordinating and delegating tasks for department special events.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and 3 to 5 years' experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required. Experience providing administrative support in an academic environment strongly preferred. Ideal candidate must possess strong organizational skills, strong written and oral communications skills, and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Must have a professional demeanor with the ability to provide excellent customer service to a diverse audience.

Ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of scholarly resources across the University that are available for both students and department faculty. Financial experience, event planning experience, and an understanding of academic and curriculum planning are preferred.
