Columbus State University has an opening for an Information Technology (IT) Support Specialist located in the TSYS School of Computer Science. This position will provide information technology and educational support for the School.

Responsibilities will include but are not limited to: administering online accounts/systems, to include updating and/or creating various departmental servers and supporting faculty use of D2L; providing desktop, labs, and online account/system support; maintaining current inventory of all hardware and software for the department; troubleshooting various hardware issues; providing IT support for various faculty hardware; working with the Department of University Information and Technology Services on warranty claims, Computer Science lab images, and updating lab machines; supporting classroom/lab computers, A/V, and printers; creating eQuests as requested; completing yearly tech fee requests; administering departmental VLAN IP address ranges; assisting with technical needs during outreach activities; and all other related duties as assigned.

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Technology from an accredited college or university; a minimum of one year of previous experience in an IT-related position, preferably in a university setting; prior experience with installing and maintaining multiple operating systems (including Linux and Microsoft Windows); prior experience installing and maintaining web servers; and prior experience with database servers.

The successful candidate must have a demonstrated proficiency of personal computers, possess a demonstrated knowledge in all aspects of customer service and computer support; possess technical and analytical skills; a demonstrated ability and desire to learn university, department, and facility-specific applications, technology, and terminology; experience troubleshooting hardware and software issues; and experience installing and troubleshooting Windows and Linux operating systems.  The selected candidate must possess the ability to work well individually and as a team; possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills; possess a strong attention to detail with focus on quality; possess the ability to be creative and innovative in a higher education environment; effectively be able to use and troubleshoot products; and possess the ability to research and apply leading IT trends and standards to the department and university.

The salary is commensurate with education and experience.
