Working/Functional Title


Position Summary

This position will serve as a Sexual Assault Program Advocate; provides short-term crisis intervention and advocacy services to survivors of sexual assault; serves as a consultant to campus partners and community members working with sexual assault victims; provides direct service to clients by providing in-person crisis intervention, safety planning, referrals, advocacy services and follow-up contact; provides Back up Coverage to the Crisis Line and Medical Advocacy Services two days per week. This is an off date position funded for nine months from the date of hire with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four year college degree program in Social Science, Education, Business, Liberal Arts, or related field; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive experience providing advocacy and counseling to survivors of sexual assault; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

More than two years of experience providing advocacy and crisis intervention services to survivors of sexual assault; experience providing sexual assault advocacy services in a university or college setting; experience with building and maintaining relationships with a multi-disciplinary team; experience facilitating training and presentations for large groups, experience with data collection and reporting; understanding of sexual victimization and natural responses to trauma; experience with crisis intervention training; previous experience working with sexual assault survivors; demonstrated competency and expertise in outreach and service provision with diverse populations; excellent written, verbal and presentation skills; ability to demonstrate empathy skills, problem solving, and conflict resolution skills; ability to be honest and maintain professional boundaries; ability to organize and prioritize; possess the capacity to function as a team player. This position works closely with the Volunteer Coordinator, Program Therapists, Crisis Counselor and community partners. This position requires the ability to provide in-person crisis intervention and advocacy services at Sparrow Hospital Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner Unit within a 20-minute travel time period as needed. Criminal Justice Advocacy requires some off site duties at local courts and law enforcement offices. This position requires access to a reliable form of transportation.
