The University of Virginia's Curry School of Education seeks a postdoctoral research associate in STEM Education. The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work with a multi-institution research team on an NSF-funded research grant entitled, "A Study of a Technology-enhanced Curriculum Integrating Science, Engineering Design, and Computational Modeling to Achieve Synergistic Learning with Elementary Students." This projects develops, implements and researches integrated science, engineering, and computational modeling activities in elementary school settings. This position is full-time including full benefits.
Primary responsibilities include: developing and implementing Next Generation Science Standards-aligned curricular units that integrate engineering, science, and computational modeling; and conducting design-based research in schools across Virginia and California. Other duties include supervising the work of graduate and undergraduate students, working with practitioners, researchers, and developers to create the technologies and curriculum, developing and leading professional development workshops, collecting and analyzing teacher and student data, as well as presenting research findings at professional conferences and publishing in scholarly journals. The postdoctoral researcher will engage in mixed-methods research, educational technology development and academic publishing in a strong and supportive environment with many opportunities to further the candidate's career path. This project offers collaborative opportunities working closely with Dr. Jennifer Chiu at the Curry School of Education and Dr. Leidy Klotz in School of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the University of Virginia, as well as the PIs and researchers at the collaborating institutions, SRI International and Vanderbilt University.
A terminal degree in science education, engineering education, STEM education, computer science education, instructional technology or related field is required by the start date of the position. Experience conducting quantitative and/or qualitative research is required. Experience with elementary school settings and/or computational thinking in K-12 contexts is preferred. Outstanding interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills are required, as is an attention to detail, the ability to multitask, and strong organizational skills.
This is a one year appointment with renewal for up to three years contingent upon funding and performance.
