The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences has an opening for a full-time University Staff (unclassified) Program Specialist position.
This position will work in two dynamic, student-centered academic programs at CU Denver: the Health Professions Program and the Environmental Stewardship of Indigenous Lands Program. The goal of the Health Professions Program is to help students apply to and improve their chances of success in health-related careers (http://www.ucdenver.edu/academics/colleges/CLAS/programs/healthcareers/Pages/default.aspx). The goal of the Environmental Stewardship of Indigenous Lands (ESIL) Program is to train students for employment as environmental tribal liaisons (https://clas.ucdenver.edu/esil). Both programs support student diversity and work to increase student retention and success in their academic programming. Both programs offer students in-depth coursework, extracurricular activities, and hands-on internships to meet the needs of their designated career goals.

This position works closely with the Director of the Health Professions Program Office and the Director of the Environmental Stewardship of Indigenous Lands (ESIL) Program, and other constituents on and off campus to provide high quality, efficient, student-driven support and programming. This position exists to ensure the achievement of the long and short-term goals of two dynamic and complex educational programs that foster diversity and inclusion by managing, organizing, and establishing administrative processes to deliver program services; supervising and managing several budgets related to program operations; representing the Director of the Health Professions Program Office and the Director of the ESIL Program in managing faculty, staff, and student personnel appointments; and creating long and short-term administrative goals and related reports within the Health Professions Program and ESIL. The individual in the position will be a key member of the team in facilitating student success in the admission, retention, and graduation of students. This requires a high level of cultural sensitivity since many of the students are from a variety of backgrounds requiring the individual to have a high level of professional judgment to assess needs and make decisions regarding right action and advocacy appropriate to a given situation. It also requires the ability to engage stakeholders appropriately to ensure the best outcome for the students, external and internal stakeholders, and overall, program. In addition, this position is responsible for budget oversight with fiduciary responsibility to ensure the proper use of funding and fiscal planning in collaboration with leadership to ensure adequate resources are available to realize the goals of the various programs. This includes supporting and assisting the Director of the Health Professions Program Office, the Health Professions Program Coordinator, and the Project Administrator for ESIL, with expenditure management, procure-to-pay, and travel management responsibilities. Administrative oversight includes exercising professional judgment in determining staffing resource needs and completing all required human resource and payroll processes for timely onboarding and compensation. The position will be required to manage and ensure the smooth coordination of travel and events for various internal and external constituents (e.g., executive leadership, staff, faculty and students). This may include individuals at the highest level of the University community, as well as, important community leaders. This position will collaborate extensively with the leadership team in the development and updating of marketing and promotional efforts. This will include creating and updating the website, media communications and marketing materials. The position may require some travel or off-campus work. A component of the position will include oversight of the student intern program to ensure proper assignment and scheduling of students to promote the utmost experiential learning opportunity. In addition, this position will perform outreach and facilitate internship agreements with community entities in partnership with key members of the work unit. This position must be able to work with minimal supervision. Projects in other areas may be assigned as needed to support program initiatives.

Salary and Benefits:
The hiring salary for this position will be up to $56,844 and is commensurate with skills and experience.

- A bachelor's degree in business, education, social science or STEM fields, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
- One year of professional administrative experience in an academic setting or a professional setting (Para-professional experience cannot be substituted for professional experience).
- Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
- One year of experience in a higher education setting, including knowledge and experience working with educational programming.
- Experience working with diverse students from entry to graduation within a high volume setting.
- Experience and demonstrated passion for working with diverse faculty and staff and community partners.
- Experience utilizing technologies that support general operations for educational programs (University of Colorado Human Resource System, eProcurement system, CU SIS , CU Market Place, CU M-Fin reports etc.).
- Successful experience enforcing and explaining complex College and University policies and procedures.
- Significant experience cultivating relationships within the College and with other student and academic affairs units on campus.
- Demonstrated excellent oral and written communication skills.
