This is a full-time, benefits eligible, at will position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. but may vary based on operational needs.
This position reports directly to the Associate Vice President for Operations and manages four professional prospect research and management staff; Assistant Director of Prospect Research and Management, two Prospect Researchers, and the Prospect Research and Management Coordinator. The Director of Prospect Research and Management is responsible for providing leadership and strategic direction for the development prospect research efforts with particular emphasis on support of capital campaign initiatives and major gift development. The successful candidate will be innovative in their approach in partnering with development staff, advising them on prospect identification, engagement, management and solicitation strategies for major gift donors. In addition, the incumbent works closely with the unit-based directors of development and their staff; including, the Office of Alumni Engagement and the Assistant Director Alumni Engagement for Annual Fund, Athletics, Central Development staff, and the Assistant Vice President for Planned Giving and Estates; as well as other Advance users and gift generating units on campus. Areas of responsibility include managing prospect research and prospect management systems and overall strategy for research.

- Bachelor's degree.
- Five to Seven years of experience in the development research field including:
- Experience in Data Analytics or working with a Data Analytics department.
- Experience with relational and on-line databases, web-based applications and development database systems.
- Experience working with and implementing action plans for the use of wealth screening data.
- Experience designing comprehensive research reports.
- Meets highest level of competency in the APRA Body of Knowledge for Prospect Research and Relationship Management.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
- Experience at an institution of higher learning/higher education.
- Comprehensive campaign experience.
- Experience building relationships with senior management.
- Experience training/teaching adult learners.
- Experience with statistical analysis.
- Graduate degree.
- Experience with AlumniFinder.
- Experience with Blackbaud ResearchPoint.
- Experience with Ellucian Advance (database).
