The Simon Schwob Memorial Library at Columbus State University seeks applications for a Reference & Outreach Librarian. This position will be a member of the Information Services Department with duties to include active liaison work with faculty in the Departments of English, Modern & Classical Languages, and Theatre; collection development and maintenance in liaison areas; general and specialized reference services; innovative use of emerging technologies in providing user services; bibliographic instruction (with emphasis on liaison areas); and coordinate outreach and marketing efforts to support library programs and services.

Responsibilities in the Instructor role will include: serving on various library and university committees; teaching library instruction sessions on research and use of library resources to liaison area students; teaching information literacy courses for undergraduate students; and remaining current in discipline by participating in on-campus and off-site conferences, workshops, continuing education, as well as others. Other responsibilities will include providing reference service face-to-face, via telephone, email, and chat to students, faculty, staff, and community members via a variety of information sources; provide collection management related to liaison areas to maintain a current, relevant collection in those fields; build and maintain productive relationships with liaison departments; design and deliver information literacy instruction; and work with colleagues within the library and across campus to provide targeted outreach programs to facilitate faculty, students, and staff use of library collections and services.

The successful candidate must have an earned ALA accredited Master’s degree in Library Science/Studies; reference experience or coursework related to the Humanities; and experience, training, or coursework in outreach programs. The selected candidate must possess familiarity with current academic library outreach initiatives; knowledge of humanities disciplines including English, Modern & Classical Languages, and Theatre; experience or training in the delivery of distance coursework; experience or training providing bibliographic instruction; strong written and oral communication skills; the ability to work independently and in a team environment; strong organizational skills; and the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines.
