Brief Summary of Work for this Position:
The Post-Doctoral Research Associate in Physics performs competent conduct of research in the appropriate area of expertise culminating in one or more peer reviewed journal articles. Expectations include oversight of project budgets and personnel, writing reports (including data analysis and interpretation), writing grants, mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and day to day lab management. This position interacts with the Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography, Center for Marine Sciences, and various units within Business Affairs, and Academic Affairs and other UNCW departments as needed for project management initiatives. Reports to the Assistant Professor in the Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography.
Research on sea ice and land ice physics and ice-ocean-atmosphere interactions, using theory, idealized and comprehensive models, as well as in-situ and remote-sensing observations.
Ph.D. or equivalent degree in Physical Oceanography, Ocean Sciences, or a related discipline. ABD’s will be considered if the degree will be conferred by June 30, 2018.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
The primary purpose of the Department of Physics and Physical Oceanography is to provide instruction through course offerings and degree programs, to provide new knowledge through faculty and graduate student research, to utilize faculty expertise to provide professional services to the university and public and to promote faculty development by providing opportunities and professional growth. In support of their primary purpose, the department engages in personnel management, staff development, student advising, administrative and budget management. The departmental office staff provides clerical and administrative support for both departments.
A Chair who reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences leads this department.
