Job Information

Job Summary:

The Econometrics and Statistics group at the Booth School of Business of the University of Chicago invites applications for a Research Professional. The Research Professional will be working under the supervision of Prof. Panos Toulis, and will be working on problems at the intersection of machine learning and causal inference in complex systems, including networks and multiagent systems. There will be emphasis on applied work in economics and public policy. The candidate must have a recent Ph.D. degree (or all-but-dissertation) in statistics, econometrics, or a related area, should have interest in causal inference, and should be able to contribute to code development (such as R or Python).

Candidates will be considered on a rolling basis, with the first major review to occur on April 7, 2018. This position is expected to last one year, with the possibility of a second year.

  • Disseminates work to research community through workshops and conference talks.
  • Maintains effective communication with all members of the faculty and outside institutions.

  • Analytical and problem solving skills required.
  • Excellent and professional verbal, written, and presentation skills required.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously are required.
  • Ability to work well independently, as well as with others is required.
  • Ability to seek out, coordinate, and appropriately disseminate information required.

Additional Requirements

Education, Experience and Certifications

  • Doctoral degree or ABD (all but dissertation) is required.

  • At least one year of research experience required. Relevant research experience preferred.

Technical Knowledge or Skills:
  • Strong quantitative background and strong computer skills including programming required.
  • Knowledge of research techniques or methods required.
  • Familiarity with mathematical and statistics software such as R and Python/NumPy preferred.
