Founded in 1899, Mount Ida College is a small, private college in Newton, Massachusetts, just minutes from Boston which provides career focused programs built upon a strong foundation in the social sciences, humanities and the arts, all developed and implemented to prepare our approximately 1,400 students for success in their chosen fields of endeavor.

The School of Design is looking for an Associate Professor in Animation to join the Mount Ida community starting fall 2018. A full time member of the faculty is expected to continue to engage in teaching, advising, service, and scholarship activities. The faculty member is also expected to support the mission, objectives, and priorities of the College while fulfilling the academic duties in Animation, which include teaching studio and theory courses at the undergraduate level.

Duties and Expectations for the Role:
* Instruction of 3 courses focused in Animation per semester (fall and spring).
* Prepare lesson plans, syllabi, instruction, and rubrics to engage student development and learning.
* Availability outside of class to meet and discuss student work.
* Show an ongoing interest in the Animation industry, through professional engagement or activity in the field.
* Maintain currency in subject matter through professional development.
* Work with the School Dean & Department Chair to review the Animation program curriculum and suggest appropriate changes as needed.
* Work with the Department Chair to hire faculty who teach in specific disciplines and help orient new faculty to the area of responsibility.
* Assist in scheduling classes or program offerings in collaboration with the Department Chair.
* Assist in all School of Design initiatives to support functions, recruitment, and retention of students. This includes Academic Advising, student exhibitions, open houses, PAX East, etc.
* Serve on School and College committees, teams, and task forces as assigned or as a volunteer.
* Attend meetings and events as required by School and/or College faculty and administration.
* Participate in professional activities that contribute to the educational goals of the College and its constituents.
* Foster and maintain professional and effective working relationships with students, colleagues, and supervisors.
* Help maintain classroom functions through the caring of the facility to aid in successful teaching.

** Annual appointment, renewable at the discretion of the President with recommendation of the Vice President for Academic Affairs.Professional Credentials:
* Minimum three years professional experience as an artist in the Animation industry. Additional work in film, television, and/or related also preferred.
* Strong proficiency in Autodesk Maya, having worked with the program at a professional capacity.
* Strong proficiency with the Adobe Suite for work related to animation.
* A portfolio that demonstrates artistic, conceptual, and technical aspects of animation.
* Project management experience with agile/scrum.Academic Qualities:
* A Master's Degree (preferably an MFA).
* Minimum one-year teaching experience and proficiency in industry standard 3D software applications at the college level.
* Experience instructing animation theory and principles at the college level.
* An understanding of curriculum development and pedagogy.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
* Strong proficiency with industry standard game engines, particularly Unity and UDK.
* Proficiency in technical art (rigging, scripting, tool development, etc).
* Proficiency in at least two of the following related areas: storyboarding, concept art, 2D animation, figure drawing, programming (specifically for video games), digital sculpting, game production, compositing, post-production, environment design.
* Demonstrated experience working with emerging technologies related to games and animation.
* Superior organizational & self-motivation skills.
* Outstanding oral and written communication skills.
