Founded in 2006, The American University of Afghanistan (AUAF) is a student-centered, innovative institution dedicated to educating Afghanistan’s next generation of leaders. The university also serves the development of public and private sectors through outreach programs offered through its Centers of Excellence, the International Center for Afghan Women’s Economic Development, the Business Innovation Hub, and the Professional Development Institute. The Chair of the Business Department currently oversees the Masters of Business Administration and the Bachelors of Business Administration, which together account for large share of the University’s enrollment.

The Opportunity:

The new Chair is responsible for providing the leadership to develop the Business Department over the next three to five years with a view to becoming the University’s first school or college. A major goal is to successfully complete the recently begun ACBSP accreditation process. The Chair works with the Provost to develop strategy for the Business Program and University, including integration with the General Education curriculum. In addition, the Chair is responsible for achieving the Business Department’s program outcomes and that courses are engaging and contribute to the practical development of students’ skills in written and oral communications, inquiry and analysis, critical and creative thinking, problem solving, and quantitative literacy, and teamwork. The Chair is responsible for maintaining a productive working relationship with the Department’s prestigious advisory board. The Business Chair also plays a significant role in relations between the University and the private sector, government, and non-governmental organizations. 

In addition to the above responsibilities, the Chair of the business department will be teaching nine credit hours per semester.

Salary and Benefits:

The university provides a competitive salary plus benefits allowance, medical and life insurance coverage, annual travel allowance and furnished housing.

Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in business, business education or a related field.
  • A record of successful university-level teaching and research.
  • At least three years of significant university-level administrative experience.
