Occupational Summary

We are seeking a self-motivated individual to join an exciting laboratory studying the function of neural stem cells in health and disease. Although the candidates should possess a bachelor's degree with some biology experience, the most important qualities we seek are self-motivation, organization, and ability to learn new techniques and help others. Our lab performs cutting edge mouse genetics and in vitro culture of tissue explants and stem cells.

Responsibilities include:
• Assisting lab members in maintaining our transgenic/knock-out mouse colony.
• Prepare common lab solutions/reagents and assist in ordering new reagents for the lab.
• Learn new molecular and cell biology techniques to support various lab projects.
• Be a helpful and engaging colleague in a fast paced and collaborative setting.
• Techniques used: Genomic DNA purification;PCR genotyping; harvesting neural stem cells from mice; in vitro culture and differentiation of stem cells; DNA plasmid construction and purification; fluorescent antibody staining of tissue samples; histological preparation of tissues.
Previous experiences in areas mentioned, particularly mouse colony work, will be valued. Although we will train you in all the techniques that the lab uses, and the ability to learn new methods is important.
