Working Title: Research Associate
Position Type: Professional Research Staff
Department: Department of Molecular Phys and Biological Physics
Posting Date: 03-23-2018
The Pornillos/Ganser-Pornillos lab in the Department of Molecular Physiology is seeking a cell biologist/virologist for the position of postdoctoral Research Associate. Our group is an interdisciplinary team that studies the fundamental mechanisms of HIV-1 replication, HIV/host interactions, and cellular anti-viral defense. The position will be ideal for a biologist who wishes to gain training in biochemistry and structural biology, and in the use of structural information to formulate mechanistic hypotheses and guide experimental design. The successful candidate will be expected to lead efforts to develop screening strategies to identify and characterize novel cellular factors that modulate host defense mechanisms against HIV-1 and other RNA viruses. For a description of the lab's overall research interests, visit http://people.virginia.edu/~owp3a.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a relevant field, a clear record of high-quality research, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work well in a highly collaborative environment. A solid understanding of the fundamentals of protein structure and function, and demonstrated experience in cell biology and virology techniques will also be required. Experience in CRISPR/Cas9 techniques and work with infectious clones in BSL2/BSL2+ facilities will be ideal. Previous work and publication on HIV-1 and capsid-related processes and host factors will be highly advantageous. Experience in protein purification and biochemical/biophysical characterization of protein-protein interactions will be desirable.
To apply, visit https://jobs.virginia.edu and search for Posting Number 0622910. Complete a candidate profile online and attach a CV, contact information for three references, and a cover letter clearly describing the qualifications related to the position. Please include in your cover letter a concise summary of previous research accomplishments.
