Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree in related field is preferred.



Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

Ten years of experience in university relations and/or business engagement, or related relationship management positions.

Capability to develop long-term strategies for corporate relationships that expand engagement opportunities with the UW-Madison.

Ability to promote the UW-Madison's strategic priorities and research goals by developing excellent working relations with university leadership, faculty, staff, and affiliates, including the University of Wisconsin Foundation and Alumni Association (WFAA), University Research Park (URP) and the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF).

Proven capability as a primary liaison in interacting with corporate executive officers.

Aptitude shown for developing and executing successful corporate solicitation strategies, with an emphasis on gifts, sponsorship, or research contracts valued at $1M or more.

Track record of successful management and supervision, including staff hiring, development, budget management and accountability.

Ability to set and achieve realistic, comprehensive annual relationship and revenue goals regarding UW-Madison's business engagements.

Demonstrated competency in coordinating and implementing strategies effectively across multiple campus entities, such as schools, colleges, departments, centers and/or institutes.

Organized for high personal production yet able to delegate and inspire exceptional work from others through team building, communication, and cooperation.

An understanding of UW-Madison's or equivalent higher education institution organizational structure is beneficial but not required.

Position Summary:

UW-Madison seeks an experienced professional to lead the newly created Office of Business Engagement (OBE). The Managing Director is responsible for leading a team and coordinating cross-campus efforts that seek to establish and cultivate long-term, mutually beneficial relationships with industry. These comprehensive relationships will include, but are not limited to: student recruitment, research partnerships, philanthropy, sponsorship opportunities, executive education and technology transfer. OBE will be a new campus entity launched in 2018 following a campus-wide effort to centralize the structure and processes that best position UW-Madison to be a national leader in university/industry relations. Upon OBE's launch, current personnel from the UW-Madison Office of Corporate Relations (OCR) will also transition to OBE.

This position reports to the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Government and Corporate Affairs in UW-Madison's Office of the Vice Chancellor for University Relations.
