Primary Function of Organization Unit: McKimmon Conference and Training Center and Continuing Education is the administrative unit of North Carolina State University with campus-wide responsibility for developing, marketing, managing and implementing non-credit courses, seminars, workshops,conferences and in-house training programs. It is the mission of MCE&CE to develop and present viable continuing education and professional development programs to organizations and the general public according to the identified needs and demands of a constantly changing work force. Six units within MCE&CE resides in the Jane S. McKimmon Conference and Training Center and two of the units resides in Rocky Mount, NC. MCE&CE provides space, equipment and services to juvenile and adult learners attending courses, seminars, workshops, conferences, video-conferences and webinars. Working with N.C. State faculty and academic units, MCE&CE assesses training needs, designs and develops programs and in partnership with academic units, delivers programs in the McKimmon Center and other locations in North Carolina and nationwide. The Client Relations/Facility Support staff is a unit within MCE&CE and is located in the Jane S. McKimmon Conference and Training Center. The Center is a 116,500 square foot facility located on the southwest section of the North Carolina State University campus. The McKimmon Conference and Training Center meets the needs of small to large conferences (ranging from 5 to 1,200 people). There are 12 meeting rooms (which can be sub-divided into 20 areas) and 3 computer labs. The Client Relations office is responsible for reserving space and equipment for a variety of educational and professional development programs. The Facility Support Staff is responsible for program set-ups and support services before, during and after each and every program. The Facility Support Staff is also responsible for ensuring rooms and equipment are clean and in good-working order. Opening and closing of the center falls under the requisites of the Facility Support Staff as well as the security and inventory of all equipment, furnishings and contents belonging to the McKimmon Center.
Essential Job Duties: The Multi-Media Technician (MMT) reports directly to the Support Services Supervisor and is primarily responsible for support operations for all Audio/Visual, multimedia and some IT set-ups for all programs held at the center. The MMT is also responsible for providing assistance to other Support Technicians for all client and staff support requests, leading and directing room set-ups and assistance to clients and staff and fulfilling the duties of the other in their absence. Additional duties include daily security of all AV equipment and the center; maintenance of AV equipment, as well as identifying and making recommendations to the Support Services Supervisor regarding cleaning, maintenance, repair and replacement of AV equipment and related accessories including supplies needed to facilitate such duties. The MMT assists in researching and recommending new equipment and technologies for deployment in the McKimmon Center. Daily reporting to the Support Services Supervisor is accomplished through verbal, email, web, telephone and written communications. The MMT responds to requests from staff within the center to provide equipment, office and program support services. The MMT's standing regular hours are from 4:00 - 10:00 pm, Monday through Friday or as needed and on weekends as scheduled and staffing needs change.
Department Required Skills: Must demonstrate good customer service skills and the ability to adapt to quickly changing situations in a sometimes very dynamic work environment. Ability to work well with the public in sometimes stressful situations is a necessity to ensure successful program outcomes. Must be able to lift/move up to 90 lbs often.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: One or more years of audio/visual and digital or streaming technologies is essential. Media production experience a plus. Working knowledge of computers, wireless and network systems is necessary. CTS a plus. Prefer an individual with experience in managing workflows and time management.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: CTS certification is required within 2 years of employment to enhance and increase available competencies and through ongoing renewal requirements.
