Duties: The Morrisey Lab in the Department of Medicine is seeking to hire a Research Specialist A/B with a working knowledge of molecular biology to join a lab investigating developmental and regenerative lung research. The position will require working with mice, including husbandry and post-mortem removal of tissues.
The Research Specialist A position will work closely with senior staff to assist with research experiments as needed and accomplish small research tasks with daily supervision. Duties include: Tissue acquisition and processing of human and mouse samples; maintaining cell lines and performing primary cell culture and mouse colony management and genotyping.
The Research Specialist B position is expected to have prior experience with mouse models, animal husbandry and performing standard injections and tissue harvesting and will assume a leading role in planning and conducting independent experiments including, western blots, DNA and RNA isolation, Q PCR and flow cytometry. The Research Specialist B will also be expected to analyze data, interpret results, troubleshoot independently and present organized data at laboratory meetings

Qualifications: Research Specialist A- Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field and 0-1 year of hands-on laboratory experience required. Experience with general laboratory techniques such as making solutions, basic biochemistry protocols and performing mammalian tissue culture are preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and are required. Experience with computer programs including MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite is preferred. Strong organizational skills and ability to take detailed notes and data recording is essential for this position. The successful candidate will thrive in a team environment and is eager to learn new methodologies and work with many different senior staff in the lab.
Research Specialist B-Bachelor's degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry or related field and 1-3 years of hands-on laboratory experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. 3 or more years of experience and/or a Masters Degree in biology related field is preferred. The successful candidate must have a solid background in mammalian cell culture and molecular and cell biology techniques. Experience with FACS, Q PCR, immunocytochemistry is a plus. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, comprehension of scientific literature and competency with computer programs including MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite are required. Strong organizational skills and ability to work independently is necessary. The successful candidate will be expected to present at laboratory meetings and collaborate frequently on team projects.
