Position: Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Stetson University invites applications for a one-year position as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Mathematics. This is a full-time position, beginning August 2018.
A Ph.D. in Mathematics with evidence of strong teaching skills is required. Candidates with experience and expertise in teaching the Calculus sequence, Business Calculus, Finite Mathematics, and Statistics. Candidates should have a strong commitment to innovative teaching, a creative approach to pedagogical design and implementation, and a strong commitment to all aspects of diversity in our learning-centered community.
The new colleague will be expected to teach four courses per semester. These courses will be assigned in consultation with the department chair based upon enrollment demand, teaching experience, and expertise. The faculty member will be required to hold regular office hours and be involved with regular department activities such as colloquia and department meetings. Service requirements are minimal. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science at Stetson University (https://www2.stetson.edu/mathcs/) consists of an eclectic group of ten full-time faculty members with areas of expertise across a broad and diverse spectrum of applied mathematics, pure mathematics and computer science. We emphasize small classes as well as investigative research in and out of the classroom. Our diverse and energetic faculty members are highly engaged teacher-scholars offering Stetson students a unique and vibrant experience in their mathematics/computer science education. There is a good sense of community, collegiality, and inclusiveness amongst faculty members in the department.

Stetson’s College of Arts and Sciences (www.stetson.edu/portal/artsci/) is the largest and most diverse of the University’s colleges and schools; it includes the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, education, and creative arts. DeLand is a picturesque residential community of 25,000 located 20 miles west of Daytona Beach and 35 miles northeast of Orlando. The area offers extensive cultural as well as recreational activities.
Salary: Salary is competitive.
