Position Summary

The Gast Business Library at Michigan State University is seeking a dynamic and collaborative Librarian to join our team in providing research services, a cutting-edge collection and impactful information literacy instruction in all areas of business. This position offers creative opportunities for a forward-looking and motivated librarian with a strong service orientation that is willing to experiment and innovate. Specific responsibilities will include research assistance with print and electronic resources, assistance with finding, analyzing and storing data sets, course-related instruction, and the creation of web pages, tutorials and videos. The successful candidate will provide focused support to select online business programs as well as in the specific areas of accounting and finance. The successful candidate will also participate in professional development and scholarly activities and serve on library and university committees as elected or assigned. Other appropriate duties as assigned.

Librarians are appointed as regular faculty in the continuing appointment system, are involved in professional development and scholarly activities and serve on library and university committees as elected or assigned.

Michigan State University Libraries serve more than 5,500 faculty, 39,000 undergraduates, and 11,000 graduate and professional students on a park-like campus of over 5,000 acres. The MSU Libraries have combined holdings of over 6 million volumes with renowned collections in music, film, agriculture, Africana and comic art and cutting-edge services a makerspace and digital scholarship lab. East Lansing is a vibrant community of approximately 50,000 located adjacent to Lansing, the state capital.

Required Degree

Masters -Library or Information Science

Minimum Requirements
  • Master’s degree in Library/Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association.
  • Strong interest in providing business information literacy instruction.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to be flexible in a dynamic and changing environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, students, and staff.
  • Strong service orientation.
  • Preparation and commitment to engage in scholarly activity consistent with a librarian appointment.
  • Capacity and commitment to engage independently in continuing professional development
  • Desired Qualifications
  • Experience providing research support in a business library and/or knowledge of business research tools and information resources.
  • Experience building partnerships with faculty, academic program staff and other librarians.
  • Experience with citation management tools such as EndNote, Zotero and Mendeley.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of quantitative software, such as SPSS, SAS or Tableau.
