The Department of Family Medicine has an opening for a full-time, University Staff (unclassified) Medical Student Preceptor Coordinator (Academic Services Professional) position.

Job Summary:
Jobs in this career family provide direct professional support for the teaching and/or educational service mission of the university. Functions include academic advising/counseling, student personnel administration, recruitment and admissions, registration, financial aid, faculty affairs, library services, curriculum administration, and others involving direct support of the educational mission of an academic unit.

Professionals at the intermediate level are responsible for exercising discretion, analytical skill, personal accountability and responsibility in a wide range of areas including academic, administrative, managerial and student services functions. Work involves creating, integrating, applying and sharing knowledge directly related to a professional field.

At the intermediate level, duties may be more limited in scope and are performed with guidance and direction from other professionals.

Position Emphasis:

This position is responsible for medical student preceptor recruitment, on-boarding, retention, and relationship management, and will serve as the initial point of contact for preceptors. This includes developing training sites for 3rd year medical student clerkships and preceptor experiences that are housed in the Department of Family Medicine (RCC/AAC, ILMC, rural summer preceptorship, and experiences to be developed). This person will work closely with the regional preceptor development specialists (part-time faculty assisting in regional site development and preceptor recruitment). This person can expect to perform site visits which include traveling (sometimes overnight) to preceptor sites and helping the faculty of the FM UME team to arrange and oversee faculty development of preceptors. This position has the responsibility of recruiting and matching preceptors with students for the following clerkships/experiences: RCC, ILMC, rural summer preceptorship, and experiences to be developed. This position will coordinate housing with AHEC for rural rotations.

This position will work closely with the AAC, RCC, and ILMC clerkship directors, the AAC coordinator, and the FM UME administrative assistant, and will be supervised by the FM UME Program Manager. This position will also work closely with the human resources department of the Family Medicine Department to on-board new preceptors and to keep an accurate list of the volunteer clinical faculty who participate as preceptors. This position will work in a collaborative relationship with FM UME team to regularly review the preceptor evaluations to maintain high quality teachers and will contribute to the ongoing development, analysis and evaluation of existing and proposed educational programs within the division that are related to the preceptor program.

PLEASE NOTE: Candidates will be responsible for travel expenses related to the interview process and any relocation expenses, if applicable.

Salary and Benefits:

The hiring salary for this position has been established at $40,000 - $47,000 and commensurate with skills and experience. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in education, psychology, business, public administration, health care, educational technology, social science, liberal arts, communications, accounting, finance, library science, or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • One (1) year of experience supporting educational programs in a higher education setting, which included working with graduate medical education or medical student education.

Substitution: A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Condition of Employment:
  • Must possess a current and valid Colorado Driver's License at time of hire.
  • Must have and maintain reliable transportation with full vehicle insurance and be willing and able to travel across the state of Colorado for work.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience working in university-based family medicine graduate medical education.
  • Knowledge of and experience working with family medicine/primary care practices and issues.
