Named in honor of Milton Friedman and Gary Becker, the Becker Friedman Institute (BFI) sustains the rigorous scholarship that made their work, and that of the many scholars who came before and after them at the University of Chicago, so influential and enduring. BFI cultivates the next generation of economists and continues the famously vibrant UChicago culture of discussion and debate. By supporting faculty research programs, BFI links economists in the Department of Economics, the Booth School of Business, and the Harris School with those in the Law and Medical schools. Further, BFI fosters collaboration between UChicago faculty and leading economists from around the world, influencing public policy and the broader public debate surrounding key economic and social issues.

Job Information

Job Summary:

The Becker Friedman Institute is seeking highly accomplished, early career researchers as Becker Friedman Institute Research Fellows. The position begins September 2018.

Responsibilities:
  • The Research Fellow will pursue research on leading edge themes in the study of economics.
  • The specific area of study will reflect the research interests of the candidate.
  • An integral part of the institute's research activities, the candidate will be invited to organize academic conferences, host acclaimed scholars, and engage with the rich intellectual life of the University of Chicago.


Additional Requirements

Education, Experience, and Certifications:
  • Prior experience preparing and presenting work at meetings required.
  • Prior experience writing peer-reviewed manuscripts required.
  • Doctoral degree in Economics or related field, or will obtain doctoral degree by start date required.
