Position Summary

The Michigan State University College Advising Corps (MSUCAC) seeks to hire a Project/Event coordinator to provide support to recent MSU graduates who are serving as college advisers in high schools across the state of Michigan. As a partner of the national College Advising Corps, the MSUCAC’s overarching goal is to increase the number of low-income, first-generation college, and underrepresented high school students who enter and complete higher education. The successful candidate will assist with the recruitment, supervision and training of college advisers and contribute to planning, coordinating, and executing assigned project components in relation to adviser professional development. The successful candidate will also assist with developing and sustaining partnerships with school administrators and local college access professionals to effectively support advisers as they are serving with MSUCAC. The selected individual will join a dynamic, fast-paced work environment, collaborating with a team dedicated to improving access to higher education for low-income, first generation college, and underrepresented high school students.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in planning and overseeing event planning including, organizing and disseminating training materials and information both written and web-based; budget and records maintenance; database, spreadsheet, word processing, desktop publishing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A valid vehicle operator’s license is required to perform the duties of the position.

Desired Qualifications

Master’s degree in Education, Communication, Social Work or related human services area.  One to three years of related and progressively more expansive work experience in a field related to the position including planning and managing projects, educational training events, and student supervision; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.  Proficiency in Google’s suite of tools. Position may also require software specific to the operational activities of the employing unit.

This is an off dated position funded until June 30, 2020 with possible extension contingent upon funding renewal.
