Summary of Duties:

  • The director carries out the ESIC's mission, vision, values and represents ESIC internally to the university, and externally to the power research community, industry and government.
  • The director provides strategic leadership; advances the professional development and promotion of faculty and staff; and manages and supports research programs.
  • The director provides leadership in increasing research and discretionary funding through large multi-disciplinary research projects and industry support
  • The director provides leadership in increasing partnerships and collaborations with industry and other research institutions.
  • The director participates in graduate student recruiting, manages personnel, heads the leadership team, and monitors facilities, equipment, and promotional material.
  • The director develops, oversees and manages budgets.
  • The director represents and enhances the visibility and recognition of the WSU program in electric power engineering.
  • The director serves as a role-model of a successful and well-recognized faculty member.

    Required Qualifications:
    • Full Professor upon appointment. Verified success in teaching undergraduate and graduate students. Record of externally funded research and publications commensurate with a highly successful research faculty as evidenced by recognitions and awards. Letters of recommendation, and a research proposal (including estimated startup budget requirements and estimated cost).
    • Demonstrated technical thought leadership in wide-area power and interdependent energy system modeling and control
    • Demonstrated management and leadership skills in academic, research institution and/or professional setting with excellent communication skills.
    • Record of engagement with external constituents in industry, academia and government both nationally and internationally.
    • Demonstrated expertise in leading multiple major academic and industry institutions in the conduct of research and industry adoption of new concepts.
    • Demonstrated track record with leading energy modeling consortia and/or regional energy planning and operational stakeholders in the application of leading analytic and modeling concepts for grid resilience, reliability and modernization
