Budget Manager

Job description

Provides leadership and guidance in the areas of the university’s budget. Responsible for managing the institution’s budget, as well as working with department budget heads to create and monitor department budgets. Ensures that departmental and university resources are appropriately aligned, safeguarded, allocated and used in accordance with university policies and procedures.

Prepares and monitors the university-wide budget and budgeting processes, developing targets, adjusting budgets, reviewing issues or inconsistencies,etc. Maintains effective and efficient budget operations; Creates and provides financial reports and analysis, forecasting and trending budget performance and institutional financial positioning. Proposes any changes to policies and systems regarding spending guidelines, cost savings/allocation, and annual planning; Complies with local, state and federal budgetary reporting requirements and requests. Actively monitors and interprets any legislative activities and laws affecting budget and resource analysis activities/responsibilities as necessary to ensure university compliance.

Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance or related field with a strong proficiency with the legal regulations of accounting and budgeting. 5-7 years experience Budgeting, Financial reporting and Financial systems work experience, preferably in the nonprofit/higher ed, Strong analytical skills. Working knowledge with forecasting methods and data analysis, Strong experience with accounting software and statistical packages. Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, Experience of grants management implications in budgeting and with proposal budget development.
