Position Description
California State University, Long Beach is looking for a skilled, nimble media relations specialist with a strong understanding of broadcast news to develop regular multi-media content and press announcements that secure features in print, broadcast and online outlets. The media relations specialist provides media training for faculty and staff conducting interviews on behalf of the campus and is available after hours and/or on the weekend in the event of a campus emergency.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
The ideal candidate can write quickly about a broad array of topics, aligning written stories with digital assets such as b-roll and still photography. The candidate must be fearless in the execution of new and old technologies including Press Page, Cision, social media channels and more. The ideal applicant is a self-starting news fan who can study and adapt to CSULB¿s voice and style, write accurate, engaging, concise copy with little editing. Versatility, creativity, and ability to work under pressure and changing priorities are critical.

Ability to communicate with an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community. Ability to follow all university policies, procedures, and guidelines including but not limited to safety, civility, information security, and non-discrimination policies and procedures. Ability to contribute to a positive university experience for each and every student, and assist in achieving the university's commitment to a "vision of excellence."

Education and Experience
The candidate must have a bachelor's degree and at least five years of experience working in the news and/or public policy fields.

Licenses / Certificates
CA Driver's License, Class C

Conflict of Interest
The duties of this position will include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent. Therefore, the selected candidate will be required to file Conflict of Interest Form 700: Statement of Economic Interest on an annual basis, complete ethics training within 6 months of appointment, and attend this training every other year thereafter.
