Posting Summary:
The Department of Germanic Languages & Literatures at the University of Virginia invites applicants for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Associate and Lecturer for the 2018-2019 academic year with specialization in 20th/21st-century German and Austrian literature and culture, translation studies and migration Studies. Additional capacities in multilingual film and literature, European border zones, gender studies and embodied communication are desirable. The anticipated start date is August 25, 2018.

Duties include, but are not limited to, teaching three courses over the two-semester term of the fellowship. Specifically, the Research Associate will teach one to two seminars in his or her discipline and on topics related to his or her research, with a third course to be determined in consultation with the department chair and curriculum committee.

Additional duties include further research in the candidate's specialization and assistance with UVA's Center for German Studies, as determined by the Center's director. The Center sponsors interdisciplinary research and other academic and public activity on German culture, society, history, and politics in a transnational European context. It includes in recent years study of the impact of migration, border-crossings more broadly conceived, and the global refugee crisis on Germany and Europe more generally, while relating these issues to the current situation in the United States.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in hand in a field directly related to the study of German Literature and Culture at the time of application and have received it not before 2016.
