Job Duties: The position's primary responsibilities are the maintenance of the collection, provision of research assistance and instruction, the preparation of exhibits, the processing of new materials, and the maintenance of catalog records and student supervision. The position will also have responsibilities for community outreach regarding genealogy and local history. In support of both course-related assignments and individual research, this position provides reference services focusing on North Carolina Collection materials for ECU students, faculty and staff as well as community users. This includes both face to face and electronic reference services. Reference services include primary sources such as manuscripts, rare books, pamphlets, maps and prints; secondary research in books and journals; government information; microform newspapers and county records; electronic databases; and related web sites. Depending on schedules and staffing, the incumbent may work from 8 to 12 hours a week in reference provision, including nights and weekends. This position is responsible for assisting the North Carolina Librarian in planning, designing and mounting exhibits promoting the North Carolina Collection's resources. By selecting and designing content of exhibits and write associated news releases, this position promotes awareness of the availability of collection resources for research.
