Faculty - Lecturer - Art Education

The Art & Design Department at Utah Valley University invites applications for a one-year lecturer position in Art Education to begin August 2018. We are seeking a visionary and collaborative art educator who will be responsible for: teaching undergraduate courses in art education, mentoring students, supervising student teaching, and working with the School of Education on assessment. The candidate is expected to demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, as well as to teaching diverse learners and modeling inclusive practices.

Required Qualifications:
-A Master’s degree, with a focus on art education or studio arts required by the date of hire.
-Three years of K-12 teaching experience required.
-Experience in teaching secondary methods required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of art education theory and pedagogy
  • Knowledge in art practices, theory, and history
  • Knowledge in art education assessment
  • Knowledge in student management, motivation and evaluation techniques
  • Skills in teaching art education and related practices
  • Skills in art education theory and pedagogy
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Skills in interpersonal relationships, problem-solving and decision-making
  • Ability to relate well with students and colleagues.
  • Ability to evaluate student work effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to apply appropriate technology in classroom teaching.

Preferred Qualifications:
Ph.D, or Ed.D with a focus on art education or studio arts.
Experience with art education student teaching supervision preferred.
Experience teaching/working in linguistically, culturally, and economically diverse settings preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Work is normally performed in a typical classroom/office work environment. Lifting up to 10 lbs.

Pay Range: $48,000 - $52,000 DOQ
