Summary of Opportunity

The Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University (LKSOM), a nationally renowned, top-tier medical institution invites applications and nominations for the position of Division Chief, Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery.

The ideal candidate is a rising star/leader in bariatric and minimally invasive surgery with documented achievement in the clinical, education and research spheres.  The incoming Chief will be responsible for developing and executing a strategy to expand the clinical, educational, and research activities of the program on two health system sites including Temple University Hospital and Jeanes Hospital.  Successful candidates will have an interest in MIS/Robotic Bariatric Surgery, possess clinical expertise in open and laparoscopic/robotic primary and revisional bariatric operations, and have a strong belief in the multidisciplinary approach to weight loss.  The new Chief will also possess clinical expertise in general advanced minimally invasive and endoscopic surgery.  It is strongly preferred that candidates possess prior leadership and program development experience with demonstrated fiscal and administrative responsibility.  Lastly, candidates will have excellent verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal, organizational and problem-solving skills and strong commitment to diversity and inclusivity.

The Department of Surgery at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University has approximately 45 full-time clinical faculty members in eight Divisions: Abdominal Organ Transplantation, Cardiothoracic Surgery (Aortic, Cardiac and Lung Transplantation), Colorectal Surgery, Bariatric and Minimally Invasive Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Trauma/Surgical Critical Care and Vascular Surgery.  The Department provides the highest quality, most compassionate care to its patients, utilizing state-of-the-art and minimally invasive technologies and techniques to achieve successful surgical outcomes.

Successful candidates will possess an M.D., board certification in general surgery by the ABS, advanced training/fellowship in MIS and bariatric surgery and credentials that will support a faculty appointment at the rank of Associate Professor/Professor are strongly preferred.  Candidates should be active participants in specialty organizations/committees at the regional and national levels and have the ability to obtain medical licensure in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Those candidates with additional pertinent degrees (Ph.D., M.B.A., and M.P.H.) are encouraged to apply.
