Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

Under limited supervision, the Assistant Pre-Award Director will support the College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) by delivering the pre-award services of the CEC Office of Research. This role is responsible for researching & identifying funding sources, building proposals, monitoring & analyzing compliance, and developing & presenting communication mechanisms to include instructional workshops for faculty.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

Bachelor's degree in business administration, public administration or the social sciences and 4 years experience in contracts and grant administration activities.

Preferred Qualifications

Actively involved in professional development organizations related to the research administration field. Examples of these include NCURA, SRA, NORDP, etc. Certified Research Administrator designation or commitment to earn this credential. Experience in a University environment preferred.


Experience with research proposal development to external federal and state agencies, such as FASTLANE, NIH, and other federal proposal processing systems. Current knowledge of regulations, changes and trends within the field of university research administration. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point. Excellent ability to read, write and speak English, and to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with faculty, students, and staff. Must exercise a high level of confidentiality and professionalism, exhibiting an exemplary level of customer service. Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures, and equipment.
