The Director of Career Strategy & Educational Initiatives reports to the Assistant Vice President for Alumni Relations and is responsible for developing an engagement strategy focusing on multifaceted engagement opportunities that will connect and inform a diverse community of alumni, parents, students and key stakeholders. These opportunities include but are not limited to events, webinars, online learning, career services, and speakers' series. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively and independently utilizing innovative and creative thinking in developing and implementing a long term strategic plan.

The Director of Career Strategy & Educational Initiatives is a key team member who will focus on:
(1) Implementing a comprehensive and content driven alumni relations model designed to impact across alumni life stages, fields of study, professional specialties, personal affinity and geography.
(2) Creating value-driven alumni engagement strategies designed to inspire alumni, parents and students to continue their connection to the university as ambassadors, lifelong learners, and key stakeholders.
(3) Evaluating current programs to determine effectiveness and providing oversight to the integration of new program development
(4) Implementing opportunities for alumni career services through the creation of career development strategies for job seekers and those in transition.
(5) Enhancing the existing relationships with the colleges and schools, as well as other university departments by developing and executing effective plans to establish, launch and sustain new engagement opportunities, while identifying how their needs intersect with our outreach efforts in order to create and augment programmatic deliverables for alumni.
(6) Planning and producing successful events and programs in conjunction with university and division goals, from concept to post-mortem, within a given budget, and in a fiscally responsible manner.
(7) In conjunction with the Office of Alumni Relations' Marketing and Communications team, developing and implementing effective communication templates, content, and policies, especially for internal customers, which will aid in maximizing the department's outreach to the alumni community.

The Director of Career Strategy & Educational Initiatives will oversee a team of four staff members, directly supervising three of the team members, and be able to represent the university and the Office of Alumni Relations in a professional, enthusiastic manner with a customer service and team focus. Public speaking ability is a key success factor for this position. Evening and weekend work required as needs dictate. Domestic travel, along with the potential for international travel, and a flexible schedule are required. Other duties as assigned, including assisting at several general events throughout the year.


Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Six to eight (6-8) years of experience required in a combination of alumni relations, programmatic development and planning and producing programs and events. Two to three (2-3) years of supervisory management experience. Experience working in higher education a plus. Strategic thinker with strong interpersonal skills; excellent leadership, management, negotiation, analytic, information-gathering, organizational, communications (written and oral), and computer skills; Extreme attention to detail; High level of self-confidence, creativity, enthusiasm, self-motivation, and energy to undertake diverse responsibilities. Ability to work independently and in a team environment on several projects at a time; Proven ability to interact with many constituencies, while building strong relationships and partnerships, with a keen emphasis on customer-service.
