Founded in 1899, Mount Ida College is a small, private college in Newton, Massachusetts, just minutes from Boston which provides career focused programs built upon a strong foundation in the social sciences, humanities and the arts, all developed and implemented to prepare our approximately 1,400 students for success in their chosen fields of endeavor.

The Center for Global Connections has an opening for a graduate assistant for the academic year 2018-2019. This is a 20-hour per week position for 10 months from August to May that reports to the Director.
The Graduate Assistant position is ideal for a current graduate student in the field of international education, intercultural relations, higher education administration, or related field who is interested in learning all aspects of a busy full-service international education office for an entire academic year on a small, private college campus.The Center provides strategic leadership to internationalize the campus as well as daily support to international students, study abroad students, and faculty who propose and lead student travel abroad programs. The Center also coordinates the Phi Beta Delta Honor Society.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain and update our Symplicity Horizons software, provide user support, create program pages
- Assist and advise study abroad students from initial inquiry to return after travel for study abroad, review applications, connect with other offices to check clearances, collect required documents for all travelers, prepare emergency documents for VPs
- Support international students in all aspects, manage check-in at the beginning of each semester, assist with orientation, maintain immigration files, assist with SEVIS compliance, organize and co-present events such as tax workshops
- Organize events including travel information sessions, pre-departure orientations, international student CPT/OPT workshops, and other programs for students, faculty and staff
- Coordinate and co-lead social and educational activities for international students, including an overnight trip to NYC for a United Nations tour
- Manage 1-2 work study students- Daily administrative duties such as conduct research, collect data, submit Open Doors reports, keep detailed records, assist with office functions, and provide a welcoming office environment

The Center is open M-F from 8:30-4:30. The graduate assistant will work 20 hours per week with specific hours to be arranged to accommodate your class schedule. Work on Labor Day and MLK Day for international student check-in. There may be occasional hours on weekends and evenings for events such as open houses.

About the College:
Mount Ida College has a focus on professional preparation. Our current enrollment is 1550 with 55 international students. In academic year 2017-2018 about 85 students are participating in study abroad, most on our faculty-led travel courses. There is a free shuttle between campus and Newton Center which connects to the metro Green Line.
