HIGHER EDUCATION ANALYST II
PAS Adm - Provost Office

This position is located in the Finance and Administration group for the Office of the Provost, and reports to the Director of Finance. The position requires an extensive computer background, a high level of organizational skills, and an in-depth understanding of Duke's business and accounting policies and processes including the use of SAP R/3. Significant experience working with both financial and non-financial data in higher education along with strong communication and writing skills are necessary. The job requires an advanced and demonstrated proficiency with financial and data system tools. Examples include SAP R/3, Excel spreadsheet analysis, data management using BW/Tableau/Access/etc. and Microsoft Word processing.

Specific responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:

• Collect, analyze and interpret financial data relating to the academic sector and identify corresponding policy implications and/or recommendations. Analyze revenues and expenditures and prepare analyses for the Provost Management Center identifying progress, adverse trends and appropriate recommendations or conclusions. (Approximately 25%)
• Design, build, and maintain financial models and reports that contribute to the financial planning efforts of the Provost's Office. (Approximately 20%)
• Work with senior academic and administrative officers to ensure budgetary compliance. Compile, analyze and report financial information and financial performance in the academic sector. (Approximately 10%)
• Work with academic and administrative officers to process and reconcile capital budgets against actual results. Work with schools and other units to develop capital budgets. Serve as main contact with Capital Budget office. Develop capital budget reports for year-end projections and management reporting. (Approximately 15%)
• Support financial services to schools and departments. Serve as a resource and expert on financial issues and processes for academic sector. (Approximately 10%)
• Budget tool resource serving the Provost Management Area. (Attend the system planning meetings with ASM and other management center representatives, provide system support for the schools and units, and coordinate security along with the workflow process for the budget tool. (Approximately 10%)
• Respond to ad-hoc queries and needs. (Approximately 10%)

Qualifications:

Work requires a Master's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Business Administration or a related field with at least 3 years of progressive knowledge/experience in both financial analysis and data interpretation required.

Education

Work requires advanced knowledge of both statistical analysis and interpretation, generally acquired through completion of a masters degree in social-sciences related field.
