Visiting Assistant Professor of Mathematics (one-year)
We invite applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in mathematics at Colby College to begin September 1, 2018. The department offers degrees in mathematics, mathematical sciences, and mathematical sciences with a concentration in statistics. We also offer minors in mathematics, statistics, and (jointly with Computer Science) in data science. Colby is committed to several interdisciplinary programs related to mathematics, including a new computational biology major, as well as new initiatives in the digital humanities and in data science. The successful candidate will join a strong mathematics program that currently graduates about 40 majors each year. This position carries a five-course teaching load; one of those may be an upper-level course.
A Ph.D. in mathematics and previous full-time teaching experience preferred, but graduate students near completion of their program will be considered. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching mathematics to undergraduates at all levels and also be willing to contribute to the research life of the department.
