Director of Communications

Under general direction of the Associate Provost, the incumbent is the primary communications officer for the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor (PEVC), formulating and implementing communications strategies that advance the PEVC priorities. In coordination with PEVC senior leaders and the Associate Chancellor for Strategic Communications and Public Affairs, the Director of Communications ensures that programs, initiatives and priorities are understood and supported through accurate, timely and engaging communication methods and tools. This includes executive messages and in-person appearances, websites and other digital vehicles, printed materials and publications, and other tactics that advance the PEVC priorities.

In a highly visible role, the incumbent works with the most senior leaders of the organizations, to identify and consistently communicate in the voice of the PEVC, and lead the coordination of messages across units. The Director works closely with the Associate Provost and other senior leaders on all communication materials from and about the Provost. The position also provides communication counsel and support to colleagues and unit leaders within the Office of the PEVC. The Director also works closely with PEVC unit leaders to develop unit communication strategies and plans and to implement plans, all within the umbrella of the overarching communication strategies for the PEVC.

The incumbent will proactively cultivate and secure media opportunities by pitching news stories related to organizational initiatives.

The position will supervise or directly perform specific technical duties, including graphic design and production; drafting and editing of written material; email campaigns and other digital communications (websites, blogs, podcasting, etc.); and coordination with UCI Strategic Communications staff and external vendors.

Qualified candidates will possess previous professional experience in a consultative/advisory role with senior executives and mastery of skills required to develop and implement successful communications programs. An excellent communicator, skilled facilitator, self-driven doer, and amiable team player.

Salary: Commensurate with experience
Total Hours: 8-5, M-F
