General Summary: The Dean of the Virtual Campus is responsible for directing, overseeing, managing and implementing the full range of activities and duties necessary for the operation and ongoing development of online learning initiatives and programs associated with the Community College of Allegheny County. The Dean works closely with the Provost, Academic Deans, and other college administrative personnel as required for the operation of the online division. The position is based at the Office of College Services with travel to other college sites expected.
Requirements: Master's degree from a regionally accredited institution and significant leadership experience. Substantial experience with and knowledge of current digital instructional technologies. Administrative experience managing at least one of the following areas preferred: library or information science, instructional technology, or online education. Administrative experience in higher education preferred. The strongest candidates will have many of the following qualifications: Instructional Design experience; Experience directly related to distance learning and/or instructional technology in higher education; Experience in online course development and/or in teaching in an online environment, including assessment of student outcomes; Demonstrated experience with one or more of the major LMS. (CCAC uses Blackboard). Experience providing professional development to faculty relevant to both online and/or face to face instruction; Experience implementing distance-learning initiatives and/or creating a strategic vision for integrating new technologies for better learning outcomes for students; Supervisory experience; Strong skills in collaboration and coordination; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills; Involvement in related Professional Organization(s) (e.g. Quality Matters).
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives to improve the academic and student service experience of students who seek to study or engage in college services in part or entirely online. Expand online programs and services in collaboration with the Faculty, Provost, Deans, Enrollment Services and other college units. Support the implementation of new programs and innovative digital learning initiatives. Champion the use of Open Educational Resources (OERs).Ensure compliance with all state and federal guidelines and regulations pertaining to online education. Develop and file appropriate applications for delivery of online programs.Develop and implement procedures associated with the online learning management system and other tools to ensure a standard appearance and interface among disciplines and courses.Collaborate with all college personnel to deliver all necessary student services to online students. To include oversight of all day-to-day operations and management of tasks associated with online learning, including management of student records, student services, financial aid, enrollment process, course scheduling and input with online staffing.Manage workload, assignments and assessment of personnel assigned to the online department. Currently includes the Director of Online Learning; the Associate Dean for Online Learning; instructional designers, and support staff.Cooperate with, and serve as, liaison with all vendors and partners associated with the online program to include courseware and learning management systems.Oversee budget development and implementation.Compile, manage and maintain all program and evaluation data associated with online learning programs and initiatives.Provide oversight of faculty and student technical support and training for online instruction.Perform other related duties as required or as assigned.
