Regional Admissions Counselor
Status: Part-time, Exempt, Seasonal
Reports to: Associate Director of Admissions
Recruits, interviews and evaluates prospective students for admission to the college.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Represent Paul Smith's College to prospective students and their families in assigned territories.
• Attend college fairs and make individual visits to high schools in assigned territory during the fall and spring of each year.
• Arrange and conduct individual interviews with students as well as organize regional group information sessions for students, parents, and guidance counselors.
•Communicate with prospective students through phone, email, text, and other types of personalized communications to guide and manage their advance through the admissions funnel process. Maintain appropriate follow-up communication with these students regarding the status of their applications for admission and financial aid.
• Work closely with Admissions to insure that the College is making every effort to attract and enroll a diverse student population from the area.
•Confer regularly with admissions, financial aid and other designated colleagues to plan, coordinate, participate in activities, exchange information, resolve problems, and promote a campus-wide awareness of and appreciation for enrollment activities.
• Collaborates with Vice President, Associate/Assistant Directors, and others to develop, manage and implement enrollment initiatives that support new student enrollment goals.
• Join, and participate in, regional admission and school counselor associations to build solid working relationships.
•Perform other duties as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree required.
• Knowledge of the goals, objectives and challenges associated with recruiting for a small, private liberal arts college.
• Skill in communicating verbally and in writing, including group presentations and one-on-one interviews and advising meetings.
• Able to interact effectively with a wide variety of constituencies, including high school students, parents, guidance counselors, school administrators and members of the college community.
• Able to effectively prioritize, organize and complete multiple projects and tasks simultaneously.
• Able to analyze and interpret data.
• Able to work evenings and weekends as needed.
•Able to travel extensively. Must have a valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
The essential functions of this job require an individual who is able to adequately (1) operate a personal computer and (2) use a telephone. In the course of the typical workday, one may be required to transport oneself short distances in order to attend campus meetings and events. These distances will generally not exceed three standard city blocks. Extensive travel by automobile and occasional air travel required. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs.
