Directs and manages departmental employees who perform specified foundation and/ or corporate fundraising functions. Plans, organizes, implements, and manages a University-wide development program focused on foundations and/ or corporations. Identifies, cultivates, solicits, and stewards foundation/ corporation prospects with the capacity for special, high-level support for the University's priority programs and projects. Serves as lead strategist and comprehensive relationship manager for a portfolio of key foundations/ corporations. Understands and positions University needs, priorities, and aspirations within the context of interests of foundations and corporations and the marketplace for large- scale support. Collaborates with trustees, lead administrators, deans, faculty, and staff across the university to define strategic initiatives and pursue support of major corporate and foundation gifts.
- The Director of Foundation and Corporate Relations leads the Foundation and Corporate Relations Team to raise up to $10M annually to advance the fundraising priorities of UChicago Medicine.
- Reporting to the team's Managing Director, s/he will design and implement foundation fundraising initiatives including identification, qualification, cultivation, and solicitation strategies for foundations with the capacity to make grants in the $100K to $1M+ range.
- Personally responsible for raising $2M to $7M annually, and manages a portfolio of 50+ prospects, which are independent philanthropic foundations or corporate foundations.
- Oversees and guides the growth of corporate fundraising initiatives including cause marketing partnerships, corporate sponsorships and giving, and general strategic corporate engagement.
- Builds a culture of philanthropy that attracts large/national foundation and corporate donors.
- Designs and leads a comprehensive foundation and corporate strategy for each campaign team/theme to maximize the revenue potential for UCM's strategic priorities.
- S/he leads and supervises up to 3 individuals.
- Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, characterized by the ability to listen, to speak, and to write well with a strong commitment to customer service is required.
- Excellent organizational skills, and a high degree of flexibility and initiative is required.
- Demonstrated skill and knowledge of, or ability to learn quickly, the internal workings of the University.
- Ability to produce quickly turned-around assignments
- A bachelor's degree or higher is required.
- Five years of progressively responsible fundraising experience, and success securing foundation and corporate gifts and grants is required.
- One year of supervisory experience is required.
- Experience with basic fundraising research techniques and resources is required.
- Excellent negotiation and mediation skills is required.
- Experience working in a large hierarchical organization; experience working in healthcare fundraising; experience in or education/training in a medical field; and an interest and knowledge base in health care economics, medical research, and health care policy is preferred
