Primary Purpose:
Under general direction of the Associate Director, this position will develop and facilitate educational and leadership programs with a focus on the fraternity and sorority community. The Assistant Director will provide administrative and programmatic support to the Office of Student Leadership & Involvement, which may include assignments in other programmatic areas, areas may include: student government, student organizations, and fraternity & sorority life, including professional and social Greek letter organizations. The Assistant Director will be responsible for supervising assigned student staff, while ensuring the developmental needs of students are addressed through programs and advising.

Essential Functions:
1. Responsible for planning, developing, and evaluating programs, and related student engagement activities.

2. Assist Associate Director with advisement and support of chapter and council leaders, providing direct advising to councils, as assigned.

3. Support and/or coordinate recruitment and intake processes.

4. Advise chapter presidents, council(s), and student leaders, as assigned, including attending chapter and/or councils events, meetings and programs, as time permits.

5. Support existing student-led programmatic initiatives, including Greek Week, Hazing Prevention Week, and other initiatives identified by Council and Chapter leaders.

6. Partner with Residential Life & Housing in the support of Greek residential facilities (chapter houses).

7. Contribute to the assessment of programs and events.

8. Support the implementation of the fraternity and sorority life strategic plan.

9. Interpret and provide guidance on relevant University, council, international organization and umbrella organization policies as necessary.

10. Support other professional staff, programs, and events within the Office of Student Leadership & Involvement as needed, and/or requested.

11. Performs other duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in student services, social science, higher education, or related discipline.
  • Experience in fraternity and sorority affairs, student activities/involvement, or similar student affairs area.
  • One (1) year of full-time experience in fraternity and sorority affairs, student activities/involvement, or similar student affairs area.

    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in student affairs administration, counseling, higher education administration, or related discipline.
  • Two (2) or more years of full-time experience in fraternity and sorority affairs, student activities/involvement, or similar student affairs area. (Experience as a graduate assistant may be counted as one year of experience).
  • Membership and experience in a Greek letter organization.

    Skills/Knowledge and Expertise:
  • Word processing and spreadsheet application skills.
  • Experience in working with databases.
  • Excellent data entry and keyboarding skills.
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • The ability to work independently without direct supervision.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Positive attitude, proven ability to work successfully with diverse populations and demonstrated commitment to promote and enhance diversity and inclusion.

    Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
    Work is primarily performed in a standard office environment with frequent use of phone, computer, and other communication devices. Work performed during standard business hours. This position will regularly work evening and occasional weekend hours.
