The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) seeks an experienced and visionary business professional to serve as its next Vice President of Finance and Human Resources (the Vice President). The Vice President will be responsible for supporting the University’s mission of access and excellence and its goal of serving with distinction as a model public research university serving a 21st century student demographic.
This position oversees an operating budget of roughly $475 million and a host of administrative offices and functions. A record of integrity and success in the leadership and management of a wide range of complex business affairs in higher education is required. This includes strong interpersonal communication, proven analytical skills, broad finance and accounting experience, a working knowledge of construction and capital projects financing, and experience with implementing and improving the functionality of large scale human capital and financial management software systems. Candidates should possess a service-oriented mindset and excel in working with diverse populations of students, staff and faculty.
Reporting to the University President, the Vice President will serve on the President’s Cabinet and provide executive leadership for several administrative units that are responsible for managing the comprehensive finance and human resources activities of the University.
The Vice President of Finance and Human Resources is responsible for directing fiscal and human resource functions and coordinating activities where it is essential to assure strategic alignment of major operational initiatives and University goals. In this role, the Vice President is directly responsible for managing the University’s balance sheet and capital structure, financial planning, financial reporting, budgeting and forecasting, audit activities, capital planning, and human resources. The Vice President is tasked with fostering an environment that encourages collaborative decision-making and forging an aspiring vision for the future.
Minimum requirements are:
- Brings a record of success with financial planning, human resource management, an understanding of public financing processes, and a commitment to advancing the objectives of a rapidly developing public research institution.
- Master's or professional degree
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Personal and professional integrity
Preferred qualifications are:
- Experience and success leading the financial and human resources functions of a major public research university or other relevant experience
- Operational leadership experience with PeopleSoft or similar enterprise resource planning platforms
- Experience in legislative and regental oversight settings, including giving hearing testimony and/or governing board presentations.
- MBA/MPA or equivalent degree
