PREP Postdoctoral Position at NIST

The Professional Research Experience Program (PREP) is a special partnership between the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and CU Boulder. PREP provides research opportunities to CU undergraduate and graduate students, as well as researchers with a Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD in NIST labs to gain research experience alongside NIST scientists.

Project description:

This project encompasses PSCR's intent to leverage the growing accessibility of virtual reality (VR) technology to develop a state of the art virtual environment for public safety. The goal of this effort will be to design and construct a series of realistic virtual environments which PSCR can use to test the potential impact of new user interfaces (e.g., heads-up-displays, maps, etc.) based on tasks executed within the VR environment.

Position - VR Application Developer:

This role will be responsible for assisting in the development of professional public safety scenarios.

The candidate should be comfortable working with commercially available VR engines such as Unity or Unreal, although Unreal is preferred.

The candidate will assist in designing, configuring and performing research to support the design, build, and execution of public safety VR test environments.

The candidate will have the opportunity to demonstrate the VR environment to NIST staff and researchers, industry and academic partners, and public safety stakeholders.

Qualifications:
a. Experience working with Java, C#, C++, or Blueprint software on 3D VR development platform
b. Experience in 3D graphics, including optimizing 3D performance in games and/or related applications
c. Ability to create interactive 3D applications
