Advertised Job Summary
The Executive Communications Specialist promotes the University of South Carolina and enhances the university's local, state and national reputation and image through the execution of the written, electronic and verbal communications and messaging of the university president and other senior administrators.
Reporting to the Director, Executive Communications, the Specialist assists the Director in responding to diverse University matters through correspondence, research, reports, Web, electronic and print communications, and University and community forums; creating and executing a statewide Presidential community outreach program; and developing speeches, talking points, thought leadership pieces, including op-eds, letters to the editor, blog posts and other written and digital formats.
This individual brings energy and enthusiasm to promoting and protecting the University of South Carolina brand, maintains awareness of state and national current events, and demonstrates the ability to recognize opportunities to engage at the intersection of the public discourse and higher education.Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)
Bachelor's degree.Preferred Qualifications

The Executive Communications Specialist is an organized, enterprising self-starter with executive presence. Must be adaptable to new technology including production management and team collaboration software. Project management skills and a proven ability to meet tight deadlines are a must. Verbal communication skills and an open, collaborative approach are necessary for success in this role.The Executive Communications Specialist helps define problems first, then solve them through strategic thought and planning. A desire to develop professionally and keep abreast of developing trends in communications is required. Demonstrated experience in researching topics, writing and editing varied types of content is important. A strong portfolio of writing, speech writing and a proven ability to meet deadlines is required. Ability to work in a rapid-response, team environment.
