The Residence Hall Coordinator ( RHC ) is a part-time, live-in staff member responsible for the direct oversight and supervision of designated buildings housing undergraduate students.

Responsibilities include:

- Co-supervises 15-19 undergraduate Resident Assistants (RAs) and/or office student staff. The RHC works with the Office of Campus and Residential Services to support the holistic development of students in a Catholic liberal arts tradition.

- Meets students' needs through community building, mental health referrals, conflict management, adjudicating conduct cases, project management and by developing and maintaining an atmosphere that is conducive to academic life and supportive of student learning and development.

- Provides on-call support as part of the primary duty rotation.

This is a graduate/part-time professional level, ten month academic year appointment with the option of extending to twelve month depending on departmental need. This appointment begins August 1st and continues until May 31st.

Minimum Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education/Work Experience:
- Bachelor's degree (B.A/B.S) from a four year college or university and one year experience living in a residential environment is required.

- A desire to work with a diverse population of college students and assist with their growth and development is a must.

- The ability to work in a team setting as well as independently with autonomy is needed.

- A successful candidate will live out the values of integrity, trust and honesty.

- As part of this position, university housing is provided. Therefore, the RHC will live on campus in his/her provided housing. Our RHC position does not accommodate for the ability to share his/her living space with a roommate, partner or spouse.

Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent written and oral communication are necessary.

- General counseling and conflict resolution experience is valuable.

- A commitment to student development and student learning is required.

- Experience managing people and projects is valuable.

Work Environment:
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Working with a diverse international and domestic population can be expected.

Please note that this is not a contracted position. Each January, the RHC will need to submit formal intent to return for the next academic year to the Assistant Director for Residence Life. If the RHC wishes to return to his/her position for the next academic year, the process to return to staff will be initiated. This process includes a review of the RHC's past performance evaluations, reasons for wishing to return to staff and a formal development of goals for the upcoming academic year. A successful re-applicant will possess a strong, working knowledge of the RHC position, positive attitude, general enthusiasm for the RHC position, a good performance evaluation and the wish to continue to perform well and reach goals for the next academic year.

Preferred Qualifications

- At least two years experience as a resident assistant or member of a residential hall council is preferred.

- Enrollment in a Master's degree program, either at Marymount University or a local accredited university or college.

- Preference will be given to those candidates engaged in a higher education master's program including: college student personnel or higher education administration.

- Experience with interpersonal, crisis management, managerial and community development skills preferred.

Responsibility / Duty

Student Staff Supervision (40%)
• Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Marymount University's and the Office of Campus and Residential Service's policies and guidelines and all applicable laws.
• Attend and assist in the facilitation of weekly staff meetings.
• Coordinate and facilitate weekly one-on-ones with assigned RAs/student staff.
• Assist in the planning, development and presentation of training sessions with student staff which include at least Fall and Spring training as well as ongoing training.
• Participate in the recruitment, selection, training, supervision and evaluation of Resident Assistants/student staff. Participate in the recruitment and selection of other RHC's, AC's and other departmental staff members, under the direction of the Assistant Director for Residence Life or their designee.

Responsibility / Duty

Departmental Support (30%)
• Support the mission, goals, projects, and activities of Marymount University, the Division of Student Development, and the Office of Campus and Residential Services.
• Work collaboratively with a departmental committee (training and development, recruitment, recognition, departmental programming, academic initiatives, Admissions Office recruitment events, etc).
• Participate in professional training sessions which include at least Fall and Spring training as well as on-going in-services.
• Act as a positive role model for resident students and the larger university community.
• Hold 20 office hours each week. One-on-one meetings with student staff/RA staff are included in these office hours.
• Additional duties as assigned.

Responsibility / Duty

Conduct Management and Crisis Response (20%)
• Support and assist Resident Assistants (RAs)/student staff and Area Coordinators (ACs) in the consistent implementation of residential policies.
• Reside on campus and provide overnight and weekend duty coverage by serving on the AC/ RHC duty rotation (including times when the university is closed, i.e Thanksgiving break, winter break, spring break, etc.).
• Assist in maintaining a safe environment in the residence halls by inspecting and responding to maintenance and safety need in public areas of the halls.
• Contact other relevant offices (Campus Safety, Student Health, Counseling Center, Physical Plant, etc.) as emergency situations arise.
• Act as a hearing officer for low level violations of the community code of conduct by filing charges, hearing cases, and determining student responsibility as well as sanctions.

Responsibility / Duty

Residential Oversight (10%)
• Assist with fall and spring resident check in and check out process.
• Complete facility inspections and provide appropriate documentation when necessary.
• Complete appropriate documentation like occupancy reports, health and safety inspections, etc. as needed in support of the residential program.
• Maintains an awareness of student and staff concerns through formal contacts (i.e. office hours, appointments) and informal interactions.
