The Department of Biology at Elmhurst College invites applications for a full-time lecturer in the area of general biology beginning August 2018.  Primary teaching responsibilities will include teaching lectures and laboratories in majors’ level general biology courses as well as non-majors’ biology.  Expertise in plant biology, with the potential to teach an upper-level plant biology course for majors is preferred, but other areas are welcome, too.  Evidence of outstanding teaching or teaching potential is essential. Our curriculum follows the recommendations of “Vision and Change in Undergraduate Education: A Call to Action” (www.visionandchange.org).  Applicants should articulate how their teaching philosophy aligns with those recommendations. The teaching load is eight course credits per year with lectures counting as 1.0 course credits and labs counting as 0.5 course credits each. Candidates should have a commitment to creating an inclusive learning environment for a diverse student body. A PhD in a biological discipline is preferred, but a masters in biology may be considered with appropriate teaching experience.
