Clark University’s Information Technology Services Department seeks to fill the position of Director, Academic Technology and Client Support Services. Reporting to the Vice President for Information Technology and CIO, the successful candidate will provide vision, leadership, and hands-on support for university-wide educational technology, online learning, and technology support services including instructional design and consulting, development and application of educational technologies, faculty development programs, classroom and instructional space planning, event AV services, enterprise learning management systems, technical support services, departmental communications and digital fluency initiatives. Duties and Responsibilities Included in a range of responsibilities, the Director, Academic Technology and Client Support Services will work collaboratively with VP for IT, ITS leadership and others outside of ITS as needed, in the planning, development, implementation, support and evaluation of campus-wide information technology solutions with a particular focus on solutions that advance the university’s teaching and learning goals. Provide management, guidance and professional development to a team of professional help desk, academic technology and media service personnel to ensure placement of skills necessary to build a first-rate, customer-service driven operation; manage staff development, training and performance and leadership and hands-on management for IT communication plans and campaigns, including the ITS website. Foster and promote the development and awareness of innovative technologies and services for the advancement of teaching, learning and scholarship. Develop and maintain standards, policies and procedures related to instructional technology, academic computing and technology support services and identify, develop and monitor key performance indicators for operational excellence, customer service, and technology resource utilization and support. Conduct front-end analysis with faculty to determine academic project needs and coordinate personnel and equipment resources necessary to build and support appropriate solutions; provide guidance to faculty in the selection and use of technologies. Oversee the management of the University’s learning management system (currently Moodle) as well as other enterprise-level, educational software systems as well as other duties as assigned. Qualifications The successful candidate will have a Bachelor’s degree in relevant field is required; master’s degree in an area related to academic/instructional technology is preferred. A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in academic technology or closely related field plus 5 years of supervisory and management experience; additional years of relevant experience may be considered in lieu of advanced degree requirement. Demonstrated technical and pedagogical expertise with both physical and virtual learning environments; ability to design and produce effective learning environments, with and without technology. Strong ability to communicate effectively with people at varying levels of computer literacy across a variety of modalities; excellent customer service skills; and a high degree of integrity relative to computer security and confidentiality of information; ability to establish collaborative working relationships at all levels of the University is required. Extensive knowledge of the activities, processes, resources, and technologies involved in academic technology management and client support services and the ability to work independently and as part of a team; ability to set priorities and work concurrently on multiple tasks and projects. Demonstrated passion for problem solving; strong project management skills. Team player with excellent consulting skills and a fun, but professional presence required. Ability to work nights and weekends on an as-needed basis is required. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, 12 month position with excellent benefits, which include employee and family tuition benefits, 4 weeks’ vacation, generous retirement plan, free use of campus fitness center and many more.
