Public Health Librarian (Assistant Librarian or Associate Librarian)
Seeking creative and innovative librarian to liaise with students and faculty in recently re-imagined and steadily expanding IU Bloomington School of Public Health (SPH) (http://www.publichealth.indiana.edu/research/profile.shtml). Will report to Libraries’ Head of Sciences, a department that embraces piloting new services in partnership with campus academic centers and institutes, colleagues in the Libraries’ Research Data, Scholarly Communication, and Social Sciences units, and varying IT departments. Responsibilities: provide comprehensive instructional, research, and collections support at all educational levels and across information formats; provide expert search services for systematic reviews and other literature intensive research projects; assist in development and actualization of researchers’ data management plans using institutional and community best practices; support federal public access policy compliance; with colleagues, participate in environmental scan of public health research data service needs and development of outreach and training strategies. Qualifications: Required: ALA-accredited master’s degree in library or information science and either experience or degree in public health related field. Candidates with advanced degree in a relevant public health field and appropriate experience in an academic setting are also strongly encouraged to apply; demonstrated experience creating and sustaining new services; demonstrated experience in instruction and research consultation; demonstrated knowledge of public health terminology and familiarity with latest methods used in public health or health-related research; expert database and grey literature searching experience; knowledge of traditional and alternative research impact tools; strong commitment to public services and improving the library user experience; ability to meet requirements of tenure-track position at the IU Libraries (https://libraries.indiana.edu/file/promotion-and-tenure-criteria-iub-librarians-pdf). Preferred: Training in appraisal of public health literature; experience with book and journal selection and/or licensing; extensive knowledge of health and life sciences databases, including record structure, indexing policies, and thorough knowledge of search interfaces; familiarity with systematic review search methodology, guidelines, and standards; familiarity with GIS resources commonly used within public health research; data visualization skills; experience with MyNCBI Services.
