Position Summary

In order to assist faculty in obtaining grants to support externally funded projects the basic Sponsor Programs Administrator I job functions include but are not limited to the following: reviewing funding opportunity announcement and grant award documents to ensure language is acceptable; assisting with clarification and interpretation of Agency and University policies; reviewing research budgets to confirm calculation correctness and to verify compliance with University policies; reviewing and preparing related documents for signature by an MSU authorized representative; consulting with departmental personnel to determine how cost-sharing commitments will be met; submitting electronic applications in compliance with sponsoring agency guidelines; resolving problems related to pending or submitted proposals, agreements, and other related documents.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration with course work in Accounting and Business Law; up to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in Accounting; experience with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and calendaring software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; requires the ability to handle export controlled materials or data.


Desired Qualifications

One to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in accounting; demonstrated good to excellent writing and interpersonal skills; superior organizational skills; good to excellent customer service experience; practical experience with proposal submissions and compliance requirements of federal government, non-profits, university, and other external funding agencies; experience in research administration, preferably in a scientific setting; ability to work independently and successfully handle multiple tasks simultaneously in a pleasant and professional manner; good working knowledge of desktop PC applications (MS Office; Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook or equivalent type software)
