Posting Summary:
The Department of Biology is seeking a Laboratory Technician 2. The lab's work exploits natural variation across populations and seasons to identify both proximate and ultimate mechanisms of adult neurogenesis with emphasis on relating these mechanisms to natural behavior. We integrate several approaches including behavioral genomics, comparative neuroanatomy, cellular biology, and electrophysiology to study the function and mechanisms of adult neurogenesis. This position collects and maintains songbirds before, during and after experiments, and breeds animals for studies. The incumbent will perform DNA extraction, isolation and preparation, PCR and sequencing, primer development, and other genetic analyses as well as tissue sectioning, histological techniques, and other cellular analyses. Other duties include maintaining supplies and equipment, data collection and analysis, maintenance of experimental equipment and cages, and is responsible for day-to-day administration of the laboratory. Weekend hours are required. The position is expected to start in the spring of 2018.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Remote data logging, database management, and routine laboratory administration.
