Posting Date: 03-13-2018

Posting Summary:
The University of Virginia School of Law seeks a Research, Instruction and Outreach Librarian. Virginia is consistently ranked among the top law schools in the country and it has a distinctively collegial culture among students, faculty, administrators, and alumni. The Law Library plays an essential role in this culture: by giving faculty the sophisticated research assistance they need; by educating students in the research tools available to them; and by preserving and providing access to the proliferating sources of information in our electronic age.

The primary responsibility of the Research, Instruction and Outreach Librarian is to provide excellent research and reference desk services to law faculty, law students, members of the university community and the general public. She/he will assist faculty with in-depth research projects that may include supervision of research assistants. The librarian will teach for-credit law school research courses such as Advanced Legal Research, participate in the first-year Legal Research & Writing program, and help develop instructional tools such as technology labs, online instruction modules and research guides. In addition, the librarian will manage content for the Law Library blog and main website, and outreach efforts within the broader legal, library and academic communities. The librarian will assist with library projects relating to collection development, digital initiatives, space planning, and patron services, and will serve on committees and teams.

Requirements for the position include three or more years of experience in legal research and/or law library reference services, working knowledge of legal materials and legal research, knowledge of emerging issues and technologies in legal research, excellent oral and written communication skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team, a strong patron-service orientation, and a commitment to professional growth and development. A J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school is required; a Master's from an ALA-accredited school of library or information sciences (or comparable degree from a foreign institution) is preferred.

To apply, please submit a Candidate Profile on-line through Jobs@UVA- Posting Number 0622809. Please include with the Jobs@UVA application a cover letter, CV, and contact information for three references. Questions regarding this position should be directed to kglover@law.virginia.edu.

Review of applications will begin on April 3, 2018, and the position will remain open until filled.
