Responsibilities

Responsible for advising undergraduate students in the development of academic schedules appropriate for stated educational goals; takes a proactive approach in collaborating with faculty and staff for student advising purposes and provides advising services on request.
Interprets and recommends policy and procedures to administration that will effectively deliver academic advisement to undergraduate students within established guidelines; works closely with mapping coordinators within all university academic units represented on the FSU Panama City Campus in the evaluation of major specific requirements for current and prospective students; takes a proactive approach in ensuring retention of students, student success and timely completion of degree.
Works closely with FSU Panama City Admissions Officers to support and advise prospective AA transfer students from all area community/state colleges; collaborates with campus and university Admissions staff to coordinate academic advising events on other community college and high school campuses as needed; assists both on-campus and distance learning students in the enrollment and registration process; conducts follow-up with students to ensure proper course registration for timely completion of degree requirements.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and two years of experience related to the duties of this position; or a high school diploma or equivalency and six years of experience related to the duties of this position.
(Note: a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.)
Knowledge of and experience in the principles and practices of career counseling and development.
Experience interpreting policy, academic program requirements and provide advice.
Must be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Must be able to work effectively with minimal supervision.
Must possess good organizational skills, problem solving skills and ability to prioritize work assignments.
Ability to establish effective working relationships.
Basic computer knowledge including MS Office Suite.

Anticipated Salary Range

The department expects to pay in the low $30,000 range; salary is commensurate with experience and education.

Pay Plan

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.

Soft Money Funded Position

This position is time-limited based on soft money funding, with renewal contingent upon available funds and the needs of the University.
