Division of Undergraduate Studies | Advising First
Responsible for advising undergraduate students in the development of academic schedules appropriate for stated education goals. Takes a proactive approach to academic advising, seeking out contact with students and staff and providing advising services on request.
Works with academic departments and other units within Undergraduate Studies to develop advising programs. Recommends changes and additions in existing policies and procedures to effect a successful advising program. Performs special projects as assigned by Undergraduate Studies.
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years' relevant experience or a combination of post high school education and experience equal to six years.
Computer skills to include experience with Microsoft Office and web-based applications.
Ability to interpret and explain policies, procedures, goals, and objectives to students, parents, faculty and staff.
Ability to prioritize, organize, and perform multiple work assignments simultaneously with minimal to moderate supervision.
Prior customer service experience and/or experience working with students in an educational setting. Ability to deal with people in a calm, confident manner and with complete objectivity.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, supervisors, and interdepartmental personnel.
Attention to detail with a high standard of integrity. Will have access to student data which is covered under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act. Position requires a high level of discretion and knowledge of legal issues in relation to confidentiality of data. Ability to extract complex academic information from various sources and maintain confidentiality.
Knowledge of University rules and regulations.
Creative problem-solving skills.
Prior student advising, counseling, or experience working one-on-one with people in a professional or academic setting.
A Bachelor's or Master's degree is preferred.
Anticipated Salary Range
Low to mid $30's, commensurate with education and experience.
This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
Criminal Background Check
This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check. The background check will be conducted as authorized and in accordance with University Policy 4-OP-C-7-B11.
